What Do Private Investigators Do?

We are asked frequently, "what do private investigators do?" There are many reasons people decide to hire a private intelligence agency or private investigator.

The one thing all users of private intelligence have in common is that they need to know something in order to make an informed decision.

That’s what we at SIASS assist our clients to do, we gather the intelligence they require so that they have a clearer picture of a situation and can then make fully informed decisions. Oh, and just to let you know, its rarely as glamourous as is portrayed on the TV (life is not like Magnum, Strike, The Rockford Files, etc!)

There are of course lots of reasons someone may choose to engage a private intelligence agency, both personal and commercial. Here are some of the most popular reasons clients contact SIASS;

Anti-social Behaviour Evidence

Whilst councils, police and social landlords are all committed to tackling incidents of anti-social behaviour, they require evidence to implement some enforcement actions. Unfortunately, those whom are responsible for committing anti-social behaviour in a neighbourhood may intimidate and threaten other residents, meaning that statements, witnesses and evidence are scarce. SIASS investigators have a lot of experience acting as professional witnesses and providing evidence that can secure anti-social behaviour orders and criminal convictions.

Employee Concerns

Many clients contact us from HR departments within organisations, whom need to establish evidence regarding things such as employee fraud, employee theft, workplace behaviour concerns, employee disloyalty. If an organisation wishes to take action against an employee or group of employees they need to be certain that they have the evidence required to pursue the matter.

Relationship Issues

Often clients require an investigation to collect information and evidence needed to prove or disprove suspected infidelity or other suspected events that have led to a perception of changed behaviour. Clearly, as with all SIASS investigations, relationship investigations need to be handled discreetly and sensitively. Our investigators are conscious that information they may gather can have a devastating effect on the relationship and family members.

Divorce proceedings can often require private investigations to help establish the truth around assets held, cohabitation claims, financial information, evidence visitations, confirm visitors and friendship groups or establish patterns of life. In divorce cases we usually receive instructions from the legal team involved.

Due Diligence Background Checks

Many clients ask us to conduct covert investigations to establish the background of an individual or organisation.

With the increase in online dating app usage, we are finding more and more clients are asking us to ascertain if information they have been provided with by a ‘date’ or new partner is all factually correct.

Some organisations may have a decision to make regarding whether they collaborate or work with another organisation and want to investigate the culture of the potential partnership organisation for example.

Child Custody

Suspecting that a child custody or visitation order may be being breached is a very sensitive matter. There may be conditions of custody and visitation, which clients become aware of are being broken, and so evidence is required to approach a court to get amendments made to an original order, etc. SIASS investigation teams can assist concerned parents and relatives to gather information in a discreet and professional manner, whilst always adhering to all safeguarding protections.

Probate

Unfortunately, when a loved one passes away there can be tension and various claims regarding their estate. Engaging a SIASS private investigator can assist relatives and loved ones to establish facts surrounding a deceased person’s will and assets.

Missing Persons

Clients often ask us to help them to trace a missing friend or relative. If an adult is missing, many clients feel that the police haven’t taken their concerns seriously or haven’t allocated any resources to investigating thoroughly.

Stalking/harassment/defamation issues

We have had a number of clients in recent months whom have felt that they are being followed, or they have experienced harassment or have been the target of defamation. We assist them to gather evidence that they can use to get legal protection and ask for help from police. Establishing a time lie and evidence of incidences of stalking, harassment or defamation is essential to be able to take action.
